I've been seeing an advertisement for a new sitcom on NBC called "Outsourced". I admit I have not read anything about it. Just going on gut reaction to the advertising I think it is in very poor taste to air a comedy show based on the premise of outsourcing. With so many Americans out of work, does NBC really think it is funny to watch the "shenanigans" in the offices of an outsourced call center. Apparently they do.
Perhaps my main complaint is really just with the title of the show. That term has come to stand for corporate greed at the expense of the American worker. Its a nice PC way of saying we figured out a way to make more money even though many people(little guys) will be out of work. Oh well, the balance sheet will look great.
I could be totally off base here, since as I said I know nothing about the show except the ads. It could turn out to be a surprise, much like the initial reaction to M*A*S*H(how crude, a comedy about war) which turned out to be one of the best shows ever. But I kind of doubt that "Outsourced" is going to be on par with M*A*S*H. Network television is not what it used to be.
It takes an extreme amount of work to get a show from draft script to pilot to a time-slot on network television. Few ever make it. Just the fact that someone thinks outsourcing is funny and then a bunch of out-of-touch, network, nitwits actually make the show happen is a sad fact in itself.
